Cambridge Third Age Learning: From Mammoths to Paradise, a talk by Bob
Burtt
Date: Thursday March 12, 2020, 10:00 am - 12:00pm
Location: Trillium United Church, 450 King St. E., Cambridge
Cost: $8.85 plus HST
This lecture addresses the First Nations People, the early European settlers
they interacted with, and the wealthy Americans who assembled the 900-plus
acres of land that rare Charitable Research Reserve now sits on. It focuses
on the history of the land, the people who occupied it in the centuries
since the mastodon and mammoth roamed the area, and how a committed group of
residents came together to keep the land free from development and available
to the public.
Bob Burtt worked as a reporter and editor on community and daily newspapers
in Ontario for more than 40 years, and ended his career with a 24-year stint
at the Waterloo Region Record where he focused on environmental issues. He
has been involved both as a volunteer and a gardener at rare Charitable
Research Reserve for several years, and he has long been interested in the
history of the reserve, and people who used or occupied the land in earlier
times.
