FRESHWATER NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

|  | Western Cedars dying in Coastal BC. Prolonged dry conditions on the west coasthave lead to die-offs of WesternCedar stands, a “canary inthe coal mine” in terms of climate impacts.    |

Million species at risk ofextinction. A new report from UN paints a grave picture for speciesdiversity around the globe. In North America, freshwater ecosystemshave been hit particularly hard. The report recommends preventingrunoff pollution as an important step to reverse the trend.

The Senate Proposes to GutBill C-69. After years ofconsultation, revisions and approval by the elected House, Senators appear to have bowed topressure from the oil andgas industry, proposing hundreds of revisions to Bill C-69, many ofthem taken directly from the proposals of industry lobbyists. But it'snot over for C-69.
