As a board member of the Canadian Environmental Law Association for the last twenty years, I urge you to do as Susan said below and send a small note to CELA's executive director for public use to show why you value CELA. Some of you have worked directly with CELA and many of you have seen Theresa's excellent presentations at events held this year in the Grand River watershed. You can send in your thoughts as an individual or as a group.

Below is a news release that CELA put out last Wednesday on the cuts - almost 17% this year and and a total of 35% as of next year's budget. Send your comments to theresa at cela.ca <mailto:theresa at cela.ca>.

Thank you in advance for your support for this extremely valuable organization.

CELA reacts to Legal Aid Funding Decision

Jun 12 2019
While we are disappointed in Legal Aid Ontario’s decision to reduce CELA’s allocated operating funding by almost 17% this year and by 35% next year, we remain focused on, and committed to, our priority mission –seeking justice for those harmed by environmental pollution and advocating to advance policies for the betterment of the environment. CELA is proud of our nearly 50-year history of working in collaboration with colleagues and partner organizations to represent the interests of those most vulnerable to environmental degradation in Ontario and across Canada.

Protecting the environment against increasing threats is one of the most pressing issues of our generation. Unfortunately, these challenges will only increase in severity with time. For this reason, CELA will remain focused on advocating in support of environmental justice at every opportunity. We have been and will continue to be at the forefront in making our environment cleaner, healthier and safer. We will continue to welcome support from those who are seized with the need to address environmental issues, and we thank both the provincial government and our donors for their continued support.

CELA looks forward to the opportunity to continue working in tandem with all partners to advance environmental protection, involve low-income and vulnerable populations in the environmental decision-making process and defend the rights of those who are experiencing negative environmental health impacts.

We're indebted to CELA for so much and they would really appreciate a statement or short paragraph to say how CELA has been of value to you. I sent a statement on behalf of Pesticide Free Ontario and would encourage you to do the same. You can send them directly to Theresa (see below)

What would be very helpful is if you and others you are connected to are able to send a one-line or one short paragraph at your discretion about how CELA has been of value to you or your organization in your work. We will be making this request to many groups and individuals. We may use these responses in a variety of ways including in submissions to our funders, our future planning, our annual report, or on our website but would not do so with any attribution on those public sites and documents without going back to you for specific consent. Otherwise all use will be without attribution. We also attach our "50th anniversary coming soon!" brochure.
