Hi folks!
In today's Waterloo Chronicle they say the Region is considering cutting back on Ion Transit expansion instead putting emphasis on improving service and extending hours instead. The article says by doing that they can save 1.5 million in 2020.
They added 35000 more hours in 2018 and another 38000 this year around Conestoga college all without having to do the Ion expansion. They want to add 15000 more hours for Galt and Cambridge.
My view, this is wise considering the flood risks and liability associated. You don't put a train where it floods.
It floods around Hidden Valley. Residents told me that years back. If that issue is the same for Cambridge area we need to stick to the bus options for sure.
No expansion for Ion in Hidden Valley then the river road extension won't benefit from that funding. That road has been a fiscal lemon for years. From 21 to 79+ million at least. Best avoided. The future is public transit anyways not cars. Aging boomers won't be driving in the days ahead. The population drops sharply after that generation so the less infrastructure to have to maintain the more affordable life will be for the next generation. See chart in attachment for the age demographs.
Have a good one folks.
