Hi folks
Today the Ford government’s budget on April 11 could mean more cuts to what working people and families depend on like health care, education, public services, decent work, as well as safe and healthy communities.
On Wednesday, April 17, all day, all across Ontario, we will sound the alarm by talking to the public, co-workers, neighbours, family, and friends about what’s in the budget and about what’s at stake, so they can take action by demanding that the PC government do the right thing and fund public services, not cut them.
CUPE and supporters will be at busy transit stops, busy intersections, bingo halls, local coffee shops, outside workplaces, in workplace lunchrooms, anywhere we can carry our message: protect Ontario and fight for a province for everyone. Ford may have a majority at Queen’s Park, but we are the majority – we are the people! Let’s galvanize that majority to action on April 17Here is the list of events taking place in Ontario so far with one in Waterloo focused on changes to education. https://www.oflevents.ca/?utm_campaign=april_17_doa_to_pom&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ofl

For Folks wanting to plan a local event or action contact mbayon at ofl.ca.  I would be willing to volunteer to organize something quickly if GREN feels the need to give voice for any aspects of this new budget. We could perhaps host a bizarre vigil for cormorants where someone fires off a toy gun 50 times for every bird a person has the right to kill as a result of Ford's cuts while someone lays down fake birds made out of garbage bags at Waterloo Square to show how many birds that actually means. It is odd yet newsworthy activity to flag how ridiculous this current administration is. I can see the hunter as a clown like figure with a six pack at his feet, extra large boots, pillow in the shirt to magnify a beer belly look and funny hat etc. Basically any comical aspects we can add to it would make it extra photogenic. I'd be totally game for doing this. Maybe the one laying down the garbage bag birds is dressed as a retriever. If folks are interested let me know.
Also, on April 15th there is an event with Extinction Rebellion calling for climate action by way of a community dance party taking place at Waterloo Square from 5:30-8:30 hosted by KW Peace. Details here.
