fyi I've been checking in with Kathy Barsoum at the Region's Waste Management Centre about textiles - I asked her if there was anything new on the horizon for recycling/re-use of them because she said the Region would be working on a new strategy for textiles this fall - she replied today with the following......

We are just in the early stages of research for Textiles recycling. Remember, we are focused on residential waste, we do not collect from businesses or manufacturers.
We are expecting a lot of changes with the new provincial policies on waste. We suspect textiles will play a part in the new regulations but don’t know yet what or how much.

The manufacturers will have more say in blue box recycling as this goes forward.

One thing of note: Waste Reduction Week is in October and I noticed for the first time Textiles is on the listed under Waste Reduction Week’s activities: wrwcanada.com/en/2017-theme-days/textiles-tuesday
