Hello GREN Members,
For a number of years now the Grand River Environmental Network has been a member of the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance - joining 100+ other environmental and community organizations across the province promoting the Greenbelt and advocating for increased protection of our countryside.
With a provincial election looming, the development industry is kicking their lobby efforts into high gear to try to weaken and roll back both Greenbelt and Growth Plan policies. The Ontario Greenbelt Alliance has developed a strong push back campaign against development industry tactics, anonymous misleading websites, and lobbying efforts.
We are hoping to flood MPP’s and the Premier’s in-boxes with support for the Greenbelt and Smart Growth. An online letter campaign has been developed and it is hoped that more than 35,000 people can band together to send a strong message to Queen’s Park - urging the government to not be fooled by developers and their efforts to destroy our remaining farmland/green space.
Already in the past 48 hours thousands of people have responded and we hope that every GREN member can take a moment to automatically send a letter to the Premier and key Cabinet Ministers at the following link:

Please also feel free to use Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to urge your friends and family to speak up too.
With just over a year until the next provincial election many important decisions are going to be made in the coming weeks - including the government’s approach to expanding the Greenbelt to Waterloo Region to reinforce our Regional Official Plan and provide an important second layer of protection for our concepts such as the Protected Countryside and Countryside Line.
Please also feel free to send an e-mail directly to our local MPP’s urging them to take action to ensure Greenbelt expansion to Waterloo Region. Contact information can be found at:

As the Co-ordinated Land Use Review winds down over the coming months and the final amendments are put into place for the Greenbelt Act and Growth Plan hopefully, we will have helped to guide things appropriately and ensured the best possible outcomes as well as policy for years to come.
Thanks for your help and speaking up in advance,
Kevin.
