[All] Permission to refer to GREN for data base info

Thank you Sandra
The path we're working on is basically a data base to bridge problems to solutions and solutions to investors without having to burden government to be the middle man on these issues. That was the flaw the whole time. We have business to government and government to people but not people to business directly so we're trying to empower people to make those connections. We have First Nation's as a great case to build upon because they have the desire for energy security and for locally owned resources.  If the system works well for them, there is no reason why we can't create the same mechanism to be used by municipalities across Canada or the world. It's just a list to connect needs with suppliers basically.
We're also looking ahead on creating a centralized data list of potential funding and grant opportunities to make it easier for folks to access existing fiscal support mechanisms. These solutions already exist, it just needs to be connected with communities that need it.

Hi GREN members,    These are my thoughts for your consideration with regards to Lulu’s request.        I appreciate the ask.        If Lulu paid & we accepted her dues she is a member.        Because there is “sensitivity in many forms” around native & non native issues I would suggest that Lulu be given permission to recognize herself as an “attending member” of GREN.         We are stronger together & I appreciate all Lulu’s research, sharing & efforts to protect the land.         In the June 14th Record article this morning re: UW graduates advice given to them was “to look outward, continue to  collaborate with others & to participate in the world around them.” With much gratitude,Sandra From: Lanteigne Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2017 8:17 PMTo: GREN > Subject: [All] Permission to refer to GREN for data base info Hi folks Right now a friend of mine and I are creating a data base system to help foster community owned renewable energy infrastructure for First Nations reserves and off grid communities.
With fossil fuels being phased out, and with climate change causing issues for ice roads and other delivery systems, we're trying to gather the info needed to see the total view of the energy situation we have today across Canada. We also want to see what kind of renewable supply is feasible and what capacity is needed to replace/reduce diesel dependency while building economic benefits for communities through community owned renewable energy projects.   As part of the data analysis, we need to know the following 1. What is the current population of the reservation. 2. What is the energy type currently used to support the community.3. Who is the contact person we can we reach who is involved with the community's energy infrastructure system  With this basic info we have a way to better understand the challenges and opportunities that exist to help these communities and the data base can serve as a bridge between communities and investors and services that can help them.  It might also identify potential community partnerships between the various groups in terms of projects or purchase power etc.  The fella I'm working with has expertise on investment risk and management projects of this nature on a global scale. It's a non traditional financial risk management solution that we need to implement to assure energy stability and fiscal security for these communities. This is do-able but at this time, he and I are not a company. We are two individuals working with others towards creating the data base to facilitate the changes. I wanted to ask permission if I can reference myself in the signature, with the term: "Volunteer with the Grand River Environmental Network".  It seems silly to ask the questions and simply sign with my name without any affiliation at all.  I am a volunteer with GREN but I don't want to use the term without asking permission. .  It is beyond the scope of the land mass of the Grand River Watershed however it does reflect our mandate of supporting sustainability initiatives at a National level. I'd be glad to share the findings. In the work I've done thus far, it really is mind boggling how many communities are dependent on diesel as their primary energy source. The idea it requires ice bridges to transport it in is unsettling not only for Climate Change but for the water risks it poses. They need our help to foster the access to solutions they need to see. This program can be applied to off grid communities all over.  The data base construct could be used for Canadian Communities just as well but right now we want to help these people because it's an urgent need for them right now.  Lulu    _______________________________________________
