Grenners, you may find this interesting.  The plans were just released
Friday.

To see the map of the proposed ION Stage 2 route from Fairview Mall to
Ainslie terminal, click on Public Information Package below (then read it
in your Downloads).

What you'll probably be most interested in, is that they propose to combine
LRT tracks with the River Rd extension - and then run it all the way down
Old Hwy 8 to Shantz Hill and straight across the Speed thru the wetland
there.

I am most interested in how they'll get it from Hespeler Rd onto the tracks
at the Delta, so there can be a GO station at the Samuelson yards.  For
years I've been wondering how this could be done and I'm glad they think
they've found a solution.

Complicated engineering all round.

All this is MANY years away - none of us may live to see it I'm thinking.
And if there are changes of gov't at prov and/or fed level, will the money
for it ever come through?

Anyway see what you think of it.  There are 3 open houses where you can see
big display boards and ask questions of staff.

Your input will be used to identify issues that may need further
consideration in the preliminary design stage of the route.
A third round of public consultation is planned for later this year with
more details about the preliminary design of the preferred route expected
at this time.

About ION

ION, the Region of Waterloo's rapid transit service, which was approved by
Council in June 2011, is a visionary plan that will help shape our
community for the future by bringing LRT to the region in two stages.

Stage 1 includes a 19 kilometre LRT route from the Conestoga Mall transit
terminal in Waterloo to the Fairview Park Mall transit terminal in
Kitchener. Construction of ION LRT is underway, with the service set to
launch in 2018.

Stage 1 also features a 17 kilometre route of BRT from the Ainslie Street
transit terminal in Cambridge to the Fairview Park Mall transit terminal in
Kitchener. ION BRT service began operating in September 2015.

Stage 2 ION will see the Region replace the BRT line with LRT, creating a
seamless LRT route between Cambridge and Waterloo.
