Hi folks
Synthetic fibers such as nylon improve the quality of cement by reducing surface cracking and providing a better bond of the materials. http://www.mdpi.com/1996-1944/9/3/131/pdf
The US Army Corp is seriously looking into it's use. Here is a report I found online that curiously was never to be made public but ended up being posted anyways.http://dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a262597.pdf
City of Edmonton did an 8 year study on the material and found it carries a heavier load. There are multiple benefits as noted in the conclusion of this report. http://conf.tac-atc.ca/english/annualconference/tac2011/docs/sm2/donovan.pdf
We have the gravel pits. We have the universities and we have major textile industries locally and in Toronto. It seems a great location to innovate these workable solutions.
This power point on the use of reclaimed materials by the MTO focused on tires and shingles and their use in aggregate products  but they haven't included reclaimed textiles in the mix but in theory I think textiles could be used to better improve the binding of all kinds of products including shingles,  It basically gives a good primer on the current recycling practices used by the MTO and provides a handy contact name at the end. I don't know if the fella is still there but the department surely is.

Hope this helps!
Thanks!
