Dear Greg,
[Rubber Dodo Award]<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=aLowqKTGHH9ac7JhmSsrqtkAunQLul5E>
It's time to pick the most outrageous eco-villain of 2016, and we need your help. Click here to cast your vote.<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=X4E5Z4HBTb7auah9Q%2BCo99kAunQLul5E>
The Center for Biological Diversity established the Rubber Dodo award in 2007 as a way to spotlight those who do their very best -- that is, their worst -- to destroy wild places, drive species extinct and tear apart the cultural and biological diversity that's crucial to our survival. The award, named after one of the most famous extinct species on Earth, is given out every year. It does not come with a cash prize.
Previous recipients of our prestigious faux-accolade include the pesticide-peddling Monsanto (2015), the deadly wildlife-killing program known as Wildlife Services (2014), the infamous Koch Brothers (2013), climate denier Sen. James Inhofe (2012), BP CEO Tony Hayward (2010) and polar bear foe Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (2008).
This year has brought many threats to wildlife and wildlands and many deserving winners to choose from. Cast your vote by Oct. 28<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=hOf9RWdN6O8oO9YsXzzpZNkAunQLul5E> and invite your friends<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=24G5z7SvjZ6NGMImGiJbo9kAunQLul5E>.
Here are the 2016 Rubber Dodo nominations:
[William Clay]<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=0WAeCwo16rKCnqoPCgXGE9kAunQLul5E>
William Clay, Deputy Administrator of USDA's Wildlife Services: Under Clay's leadership, this shadowy federal program killed 3.2 million animals last year, half a million more than it killed the year before. The death toll included 385 gray wolves, 68,905 coyotes, 480 black bears, 284 mountain lions, 731 bobcats, 492 river otters (most killed "unintentionally"), 3,437 foxes, two bald eagles, 21,559 beavers and more than 20,777 prairie dogs.
[Rob Bishop]<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=hwZKmN%2Fii%2FV8vLTFo9WECNkAunQLul5E>
Rob Bishop (R-Utah): Bishop's fanatical campaign to give away America's iconic public lands -- our forests, deserts and wildlife refuges -- to state and private ownership defies popular opinion and political reality. Deeply intertwined with the violent, racist, subsidy-driven movement of Cliven Bundy and his extremist followers, Bishop is now pushing forward the industry-backed "Public Lands Initiative" bill that would hand over control of millions of acres of public land to the state of Utah for dirty fossil fuel extraction and other private industry development.
[Lee Raymond]<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=tqbR7%2FZGBGQdblt2tF6R1NkAunQLul5E>
Exxon and Ex-CEO Lee Raymond: At the helm of Exxon when the oil giant dismissed reams of its own scientific research on the destructive power of fossil fuels, Raymond spent decades publicly denying climate change reality. The company put "its muscle behind efforts to manufacture doubts" about climate science -- and this September The Wall Street Journal reported that Exxon is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission for allegedly misleading its own investors about how climate change would affect their returns.
[Martin Winterkorn]<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ezz1H0rqBxNUTN8RQx%2ByWcywKEDUOBR6>
Volkswagen and Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn: Winterkorn resigned after revelations in 2015 of Volkswagen's six-year, criminal cheating on auto pollution tests (which likely caused the release of an extra 32 million tons of carbon pollution into the atmosphere). In 2016 it was revealed that, despite continuous denials, the disgraced CEO likely was aware of the scandal for far longer than he admitted -- and likely also initiated the cover-up.
The 2016 Rubber Dodo Award winner will be chosen after voting closes at midnight on Oct. 28. Cast your vote<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=7sRkUpGRGpDnvRpWsY%2BBhNkAunQLul5E> and share this on Facebook<http://biologicaldiversity.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=sWdaaZGyjFEwExd68WQy6tkAunQLul5E>.
