Ontario Environmental Commissioner Dianne Saxe just released her Energy Conservation Progress Report: #LetsGetSerious
Big point: Ontario has been putting lots of conservation efforts to reduce electricity rather than fossil fuels even though it only makes up 20% of all energy used. The rest is fossil fuel used in transportation and natural gas. That's where big changes have to happen.

Also, Ontario is investing 100 Million to reclaim methane from farm and food wastes and landfills to offset fossil fuel dependency. The methane would be naturally released anyways adding to green house gases and this makes better use of human sludge and manure that would otherwise threaten our water supplies. Waste ash with the trace metals can be reclaimed and trace metals bound to form pit free aggregates for construction which can protect our moraines
Also a new report by US Geological Survey shows that climate change places Karst Moraines at risk. It is a threat to our water supplies. Report here:

Our moraines are very vulnerable right now. After the oil spill in the Grand River, the Region bumped up output of water at the Mannheim wells. As a result water tables dropped throughout the entire well field. Wetlands around the Wilmot Line area went dry. Ponds ran dry in Schneider's woods; in the wetland on Wideman Road and Wilmot Line in the south east corner, the wetland on Wilmot Line at Carmel Koch road and even at the landfill area. Turned them into mud flats. Probably killed off some of this year's Jefferson Salamander offsprings.
