Hi Kevin.thank you for ALL that YOU DO FOR OUR LAND AND WATER AND REGION AND
PROTECTING FOR OUR FUTURE. I don't seem to be able to stir up the ENERGY
as in the olden days to just GET RIGHT out there.however IF you need an
extra letter written to the general public.let me know the problem and the
'angle' to take on it. I'm there as always for the protection of the
FUTURE of this and all communities, ,,,,,just can't get to MANY
meetings lately I think it's called AGING and AGEISM (and being rich to
reach this stage in this life to mention it) hugs Ginny

Hey I am NOT surprised to hear that you two are producing another advocate
for this community and our future. So glad to have 'encountered you'
along this life journey. It certainly DOES PAY to get involved. yes it
costs ,..yet WE and our FUTURE generations will benefit from OUR efforts
and some will also advocate for the upcoming generations. Kinda.sorta.gives
us Good Feelings and the Urge to continue going FORWARD. Many Hugs
Ginny Q.

Thank you for the congratulations and recognition!

It is a huge honour to be the recipient of this national award. However, as
I will be noting in my speech at the Gala on Thursday night so many of our
activities over the past decade and half be it ESL's, Greenbelts, Protected
Countryside, source-water protection, traffic issues, LRT, the Regional
Official Plan, etc. have been team efforts. I am really accepting this
award on behalf of so many hardworking people here in Waterloo Region.

Together, we have done what they said couldn't be done and developed so many
precedent-setting initiatives that are helping to ensure Waterloo is a
global leader in so many ways.

The coming years ahead are going to be just as exciting with almost a dozen
priorities identified by GREN be it Provincial Greenbelt expansion,
recycling and landfill diversion opportunities, or the new Waterloo Region
Land Trust.

Lets keep moving forward and see what we can accomplish in the next decade.

Thanks again!

Kevin.

Canada

Each year, Environmental Defence recognizes an outstanding individual whose
leadership has helped to create a greener and more prosperous Canada with
the Green Champion award. This year the Green Champion award recipient is
Kevin Thomason - an environmental advocate and a steadfast supporter of
Environmental Defence's Greenbelt program.

Description in Gala Program:

Green Champion

Kevin Thomason

Vice-Chair, Grand River Environmental Network

Kevin Thomason has been an environmental advocate for over 20 years. As
President of the Sunfish Lake Association for more than a decade he played a
key role in regional efforts to promote a greenbelt plan for the Region of
Waterloo and urged regional council to approve policies to protect farmland
and preserve natural landscapes. Kevin actively promotes support for the
Region of Waterloo's Light Rail Transit system which will support compact
growth and prevent sprawl and is a Co-Founder of SmartGrowth Waterloo.

Congratulations Kevin, for this well deserved recognition.
