Hi folks
Excellent article on the geological risks that led to the Ottawa Sink Hole. They built on recharge. Silty sand and broken up bedrock this area was all part of a geological valley system.

My daughter was walking to yoga class in Ottawa when the accident happened. She heard the mess as it took place. At first she thought her new earphones were broken with all this loud noises then she took them off and noticed  people running and realized it was the ground caving in. She was right there.
She has been off work since it happened. She manages a restaurant at the Rideau Centre. The ruptured gas line contaminated their ruptured water line. They can't even wash dishes.  They were allowed to go back to quickly clean up after the swift evacuation but they're loosing thosands of dollars each day in lost sales. All the wasted product must be tossed. Every day is costing mall owners and businesses in the area millions. No water, no work.
