Hi folks
I'm doing research in prep of my comments regarding Enbridge Line 10 NEB hearings when I came across reference to a report featuring scenarios of an oil spill in the Hamilton area. It was included as Appendix A in the Source Water Protection Act only for Halton-Hamilton. The document is titled: Spill Scenario Modelling for Lake Ontario Intakes, Halton-Hamilton focus Prepared by Modelling Surface Water Ltd., 2011 prepared by Dr. Ray Dewey here: http://protectingwater.ca/uploads/Documents/Halton%20IPZ%20Lake%20Ontario%20Report%20-%20final.pdf
The report features the following scenarios:
- Disinfection failures at the wastewater treatment plants‐ High E.coli levels releasedthrough outfall/diffusers, -Tritium releases at shoreline from Pickering and from the Darlington NGS diffuser,- Oil pipeline breaks, transporting refined gasoline, with subsequent release of Benzeneto tributaries of Lake Ontario -Tank Farm releases of gasoline , with subsequent release of benzene to tributaries ofLake Ontario-Sanitary trunk sewer breaks, which release raw sewage to tributaries of Lake Ontario, causing impacts of E.coli and TSS,-Tanker truck spill of gasoline and subsequent release of benzene to Lake Ontario.
Interesting little passage I saw on page 57 section 3.1.5 states:
Tritium Levels at Ajax‐Whitby‐Oshawa
The model over predicted the concentration at these intakes, the reasons are still unknown, andongoing work is trying to resolve this issue.
