At our last GREN meeting we decided to make municipal waste management be a part of our work over the coming year. I will be leading that work. If you want to join the committee, please let me know.

One of the groups that I have worked with on waste issues over the decades is the Toronto Environmental Alliance. They have just released their vision for a zero waste Toronto that reflects many of the things that citizen groups have been advocating for over the past many years. I am forwarding that report for the interest of anyone who may be thinking of joining our waste committee.

Also i will be in touch in the next couple of days about a submission that I have been developing with the Canadian Environmental Law Association on Ontario's proposed zero waste Strategy and Legislation.

> Dear Friend,
>
> Exciting news! TEA just released Zero Waste Toronto <http://www.torontoenvironment.org/zerowaste?e=91cde8d6cb8eba3e11a05a8f6ef61c61773c0a0e&utm_source=toenviro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cw_non_signers&n=1>, a beautiful new resource that outlines a vision for our city where our environment, our communities and good green jobs are part of Toronto’s waste management solution.

> Why waste and why now?
>
> In 5 days, TEA will be speaking at a special committee meeting at City Hall where Councillors will be voting on Toronto’s proposed long term waste plan - a plan which will decide what happens to the waste we throw away for the next 50 years!
>
> At this committee meeting on Monday February 29th, TEA will be delivering nearly 4,000 petition signatures from Torontonians asking City Councillors to make the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) a top priority for Toronto.
>
> Not only is this meeting the perfect time to present our petition, it’s also marks the beginning of TEA’s exciting new Zero Waste Toronto campaign! <http://www.torontoenvironment.org/zerowaste?e=91cde8d6cb8eba3e11a05a8f6ef61c61773c0a0e&utm_source=toenviro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cw_non_signers&n=3>
> If everyone in Toronto had access and used existing waste collection services like the Blue Bin and Green Bin, we would cut what we send to landfill by 300,000 tonnes per year!
>
> We will be sharing our Zero Waste Toronto resource with Councillors because it has concrete examples of what Toronto communities and businesses are already doing to prove that zero waste is not only possible but surprisingly easy and fun to do.
>
> Toronto is ready for a zero waste future. Help us spread the word!
