Subject: Minister of Environment and Climate Change requests more information on OPG’s Deep Geologic Repository project 

The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, issued today a request to Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for additional information and further studies on the environmental assessment for the Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) project.

The Minister has requested additional information on alternate locations for the project, cumulative environmental effects of the project, and an updated list of mitigation commitments for each identified adverse effect under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012).

OPG has been asked to respond by April 18, 2016, with a schedule for fulfilling the information request. This request pauses the timeline for the environmental assessment decision.
