I thought this group might like to see where this endeavour has come to. I
was only a participant at the summit, but our very own Yvonne Fernandes
(Kitchener) and Nicholas Ermeta (Cambridge) were part of the organizing
committee who have worked very hard to get it to here.

Subject: OMB Reform Recommendation Report
Dear Elected Official
I met with the Minister of Municipal Affairs Bill Mauro at the recent AMO
conference in Windsor and we discussed the recommendations that came out of
the Municipal Summit on OMB Reform. The Minister and I had a great
discussion and he was very receptive to the need for OMB reform.
For those of you who were unable to attend the AMO conference and thus did
not hear the Minister’s speech, here is a clip of the Minister of Municipal
Affairs Bill Mauro speaking about OMB Reform in his speech to the attendees
at the AMO conference. The Minister references the motion - first approved
in Aurora - that speaks to the need for OMB reform. It is great to hear that
the grassroots movement toward OMB reform that started in Aurora has grown
to the point that the Provincial government is listening and ready to take
action. I believe we are on the way to true and bold reform of the OMB!!
While there is still much more work to be done, this shows that when we work
together and speak up we can accomplish a great deal.

This fall, the Province is undertaking a review of the OMB. A draft
consultation paper, which will outline proposed changes to the legislation,
will be presented for public comment in early Fall. In anticipation of the
legislative review, the recent Municipal Summit on OMB reform sought to
identify common principles and recommendations that would inform the review
process.
I have attached the Municipal Summit recommendation report for your viewing.
This report was presented to the Minister of Municipal Affairs Bill Mauro
for the purposes of informing the legislative review process.
We thank everyone for their tremendous contributions. Your input and
insights have ensured that we are taking positive steps towards meaningful
change of the OMB.
Regards,
Tom Mrakas
