Hi Everyone,

Last Thursday's Waterloo Region Climate Town Hall was a success.  There were about 300 citizens that participated, and all 5 area MPs were in attendance.  After the introductions and opening, the Liberal MPs presented a slide show about climate change, setting the context for the consultation.  People then split into small groups to come up with ideas to tackle mitigation or adaptation to climate change.  Each group then condensed their ideas into a 30-second summary and reported back to everyone.  

I was happy to hear the passion and commitment to climate action, and in particular, the amount of support for carbon fees and carbon fee-and-dividend as a way to transition away from fossil fuels and to spur innovation, while protecting the poor from price increases.

Here is a video of the feedback from the small groups.  It also has an inspiring call to action by Niara, a young person, as well as the response by Raj Saini on behalf of the MPs.

I spoke to Raj Saini at the event, and he sincerely thanked me for the event the previous week at CIGI.  He said that he learned something from each speaker.  It was really touching to get that feedback.
