GREN meetingThursday March 197:15Christian Science Sunday School64 Water Street North, Kitchener
Enter at the Francis Street door of the church and go down to the Sunday School. Access to public transit is similar to what it is at St John’s Kitchen (the Church is just around the corner from St John’s Kitchen.) There is a small parking area around the church plus on street parking on Francis and Water Streets. The acoustics will be better than at the St John’s Kitchen.
At our last meeting, we decided to dedicate the main part of this meeting to the waste management issue in Waterloo Region with a particular focus on whether the Region should or needs to build an incinerator for municipal garbage.

Thursday March 19, 2015Kitchener Public Library85 Queen St. North6 to 8pm

Folks can submit comments using the Environmental Bill of Rights website until March 29 at this website: http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTI0Mzcz&statusId=MTg3MjY0&language=en

Lulu note:   The Environmental Commissioner states Ontario government’s public consultation process on carbon pricing to date has focused only on one policy instrument: cap-and-trade. There is a need for a reasoned and balanced public discussion comparing and contrasting emissions trading and a carbon tax in terms of ensuring carbon price discovery in the economy while reducing GHG emissions. ie: BC's Fee and Dividend model.  The following website gives an overview of both pricing instruments from the standpoints of:1) emissions certainty and price certainty2) administrative oversight3) transparency4) implications for the transition to a low-carbon economy. http://www.ecoissues.ca/Pricing_Carbon_in_the_Economy
My personal preference is the one being promoted by the Citizens Climate Lobby which is BC's fee and dividend system. World bank report shows 19% decreased use of fossil fuels over a 4 year period. Follow up studies showed no adverse economic impacts at all. Conference Board of Canada says BC is the top Province in economic growth. http://www.bcbusiness.ca/finance/bc-will-lead-canada-in-economic-growth-in-2015-report
