A report by BC Think Tank Clean Energy Canada finds Guelph is leading the nation on clean energy jobs. Guelph, along with Yellowknife, NWT., and Vancouver B.C were recognized for "leading the way, slashing emissions, cutting waste and boosting the quality of life for residents." Here are some highlights of the report: 
Canada’s clean energy capacity grew 93% over 5 years. 
24 billion invested in clean energy in 2013. 
More clean energy jobs now than total direct oil sands jobs in Canada. 
30% of Ontario’s power now comes from renewables.
Ontario estimates that it saves $3.4 billion per year in health and environmental costs by replacing coal with renewables.
Enough clean energy is produced in Canada to power 37 million homes
Canada's top 5 in renewable energy producers: Transalta, Brookfield Asset Mgt. Enbridge, Fiera Axium Infra, & Transcanada

The Ontario government is contributing $5.6 million to help build an oxygen pipeline between Air Liquide and steel manufacturer  ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton. This will save 29 Mega Watts and 2 million dollars each year. http://www.chch.com/pipeline-arcelormittal/(to put it into perspective, if the average home uses 10,000 kw of energy so 1kw = 1000 homes. This project offsets energy equal to 29,000 homes each year!) 


National News
The T'Sou-ke First Nations in BC used traditional values, renewable energy and lots of wasabi to establish their 100 year plan for energy and food security, cultural renaissance and economic prosperity. By forming partnerships with area logging firms they built windmills and invested in solar power cutting their community's energy bills by 75%.  They produce organic foods on land including fresh wasab grown in green houses and are developing oyster beds off shore to provide food and create local jobs.  Their electric vehicles are powered by their energy revenues. They sell their power in the summer, buy back in the winter and pay it off with the dividends. The T’Sou-ke are considered the most solar-intensive aboriginal community in the world.
