The NEB is looking for public comments to revise regulations to prevent damages to pipelines. Deadline is October 20th. The link as provided by the NEB didn't work on my server but this one did:

I know in the US, they bumped up protection of pipelines in certain states significantly by digging lines lower to prevent erosion issues, and scouring of river beds by flood or ice jams. Arc welds help to prevent damages associated with seismic risks. 

We need to consider factors such as melting permafrost up north and impacts to sensitive water features. Is it worth double lining a pipe to prevent risks in certain areas?

We also need to consider spacing of shut off valves. Currently it averages 12 miles apart for line 9. Both sides of river systems should have valves to protect waterways. 

There are lots of ideas to consider. Now's the time to chime.

Modifications proposées à quatre règlements de l’Office traitant de la prévention des dommages aux pipelines – PÉRIODE DE COMMENTAIRES jusqu’au 20 octobre 2014
L’Office national de l’énergie sollicite des commentaires au sujet de modifications proposées à des règlements traitant de la prévention des dommages aux pipelines. Les règlements qui seront ainsi modifiés sont le Règlement de l’Office national de l’énergie sur le croisement de pipe-lines, partie I, le Règlement de l’Office national de l’énergie sur le croisement de pipe-lines, partie II, le Règlement de l’Office national de l’énergie sur les pipelines terrestres et le Règlement sur les sanctions administratives pécuniaires (Office national de l’énergie). Ces modifications vont dans le sens de l’engagement pris par l’Office dans l’Avis de projet de modification réglementaire 2013-01.
