Hi folks
Quick comments regarding the data as provided in the Canadian Nuclear Safety Council presentation:
-Lake Huron Deep Geological Repository hearings: over 25 days of hearings, over 200 interventions, 20,000 pages, and more hearings are happening this October.
-Nuclear Liability & Compensation Act would cap liability to 1 billion. If passed in effect 2015.
-The report states a report on Aboriginal Consultation process is forthcoming, but it is evident the Nuclear Liability and Compensation Act was written without proper consultation.
-CNSC states "WIPP not helpful" to Lake Huron nuclear repository hearings.
This is not in the report but I found out that the WIPP: Waste Isolation Pilote Plant in New Mexico was used as the shining example given by the CNSC to show deep nuclear repositories are safe, but it failed. This system leaked. The plant is to remain closed till 2016, repair costs estimated to be over 500 million. $242 to get facility back online, $77-309 million needed for capital upgrades to return to full operation and it will take up to 3 years. Supporting article is here and in the attachments.

Also observe within the presentation in blue font at the bottom of page 5 it implies the mandate of the CNSC is to " Insure peaceful and safe use of nuclear". If the CNSC's primary objective is to INSURE USE it flags the fact this process is already industry biased to an unreasonable degree.
Do they even have the jurisdictional authority to say no?
The CNSC is still allowing the public to submit closing comments regarding the Deep Geological Nuclear Repository project. If folks have given comment and wish to add further info here's the way to do it at this link:

Thanks everybody.

On September 23, 2014 President Binder spoke to the International Nuclear Regulators Association on CNSC's recent activities and provided an update of our regulatory framework and operations.
INRA is an association that comprises the most senior officials of the nuclear
regulatory authorities. The main purpose of the association is to influence and enhance nuclear safety, from the regulatory perspective, among its members and worldwide.
