[All] Hwy 7 next milestone reached

I spent a ton of time fighting this highway quite a few years ago, in collaboration with several others, and we did get them agree to change the route a bit here and there, to go around some wetlands. It always seemed so simple- just widen the existing highway, see how that goes, then if something is still needed, think about it, but to go from a 2 lane road to a super highway through prime farmland, just makes no sense to me still. No matter how hard we tried, we could never get the real answer as to why they wouldn't widen the existing Hwy. 7 to ease the congestion.
Certain landowners and nursery owners protested of course, but that usually never stops pavement. I remember being in a meeting when Sean Strickland was our staff liaison (I used to be chair of the City of Waterloo Citizens' Environmental Advisory Committee for 12 years,1989-2002 or so) and he looked at all of us who were so earnestly trying to save the environment. He looked us straight in the eye and said "Make no mistake -this highway will be built - its just a matter of time" . ie. no matter what you bleeding hearts think or do, the highway makers will get their way in the end. We got a long delay, but here it is again.

Hi All,
The map of the new Hwy 7 is in Sat Record, and the "Initial Design Report" - already EA-approved - will be on view at the City of Kit clerk's ofc from April 9 to May 9. Doesn't sound as if there's any further opportunity for public input.
Another thing I'm damned sorry to see going ahead. (Along with the Speedsville Rd industrialization that I mentioned the other day under the Subject line "East side Cambridge lands ...")
FYI
Eleanor
