Hi Louisette,
The MNR Species-at-Risk Biologists have provided a map showing the regulated habitat, under the provincial Endangered Species Act, of Jefferson Salamanders in Hidden Valley to the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. It is our understanding that that map will be shown at the Public Information Centre on May 17, 2011.
It is our understanding that the Federal Species-At-Risk Act does not apply at this site, since the province is taking a leadership role in protecting this species at this site. The provincial Endangered Species Act does apply and it will be considered through the Environmental Assessment process and the subsequent permitting and detailed design stages.
As this project is not a planning act application, the Provincial Policy Statement does not apply. If you have concerns about the implications of Regional Policies for this site, please contact the Regional Municipality of Waterloo - Mr. Wayne Cheater, Senior Project Manager at 519-575-4757, extension 3183.
Thank you.
Ken
