[All] Spill in Humber River

HI folks

Yesterday Fire fighters reported a spill of oil that they thought was from a high pressure pipeline along the Humber river. The cause was later said to be illegal dumping of a solvent in a sewer along Islington. The spill was found by a concerned citizen.

I was travelling today through Toronto from my parent's house in Trenton to Waterloo. I decided to stop along the Humber River to see if I could see anything of that spill.  I was very sad when I came upon a bridge along  Albion Rd. The spill appeared to be ongoing.

I have a you tube videos of what I saw here.

Photos in attachment. There are several pipelines in the area including Line 9.

I told the fire department what I saw. I was worried about the fact it looks like the spill is ongoing.  They assured me the booms are up upstream of here and told me it was due to a spill on Steels Ave from someone illegally dumping solvents into sewer. I was worried about the fact the rocks and sediment are still saturated. They assured me the issue is being dealt with that the solution takes time but it will address these concerns. I went home after that.

I went home, looked at the video and offered it to the Toronto police but they said the matter is all in the hands of the fire dept. They don't need the data. They rely on the fire department who is confident that their work will resolve the issues. Left me with an uneasy feeling. The cop sounded upset and almost angry at me as he told me all this. Must be tired, over worked etc.

I went home, contacted the Toronto Star and they wanted to see the video I posted. I sent them the link and at first it did not work. My computer started acting oddly, would not allow me to add attachments. Youtube would not let me enter my video manager section. Facebook acted oddly. It's like someone is hacking my server to prevent me from doing this.

I finally managed to get the data to him. I validated this via phone. Now I want to let you folks know of it too.

Made me worried to think that an oil spill not sourced by a leaky pipe would pose such a risk. How can the fire department respond to an oil spill when the pipeline companies are not held liable. Enbridge does not have to help clean up the spill if it's someone else doing the offence. Are our municipal fire fighters and the cash strapped MOE really up to the task working on this kind of clean up effort alone? Municipalities and ministries don't have the budget for this.
