Hi folks

I filed a written submission to the NEB regarding Northern Gateway, and I'll be doing the same for this one. If anyone wants a say on the TransMountain Pipeline instructions are below. Deadline to register to give comment is Feb. 12.

A couple of ideas to mention:

Water Hammer Effect: When the fluid travels down a mountain and valves are closed, the fluid in the pipe will jar the pipe lifting it off it's mount or possibly rupture the system.

Bitumen Sinks. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/diluted-oilsands-bitumen-sinks-when-mixed-with-sediment-study-1.1639044

Kinder Morgan pipeline hearings – apply to participate by Feb 12

Click to view this email in a browserDear Louisette,
The National Energy Board (NEB) is now accepting applications for public participation in its review of Kinder Morgan’s proposal to build a new Trans Mountain Pipeline across B.C. and bring 408 tankers per year into the heart of Vancouver and past the Gulf Islands.

Individuals, businesses, groups and municipalities who wish to have their voices heard by the NEB have until noon (PST) on February 12 to submit an application.

You have two options for participating in the NEB process: as a “Commentor” by submitting a letter of comment; or as an “Intervenor”, if you have technical expertise or evidence to present.

Once you have applied, the NEB will then decide if you are allowed to participate or not, depending on whether you meet their criteria of being "directly affected" or having "relevant knowledge".

Yes, the daunting application process seems set up to deter people from participating. And the NEB has already stated that they will not be considering the impacts of tar sands expansion linked to the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline, or the greenhouse gas emissions produced by burning the heavy crude oil it transports.

And yet, don’t we all stand to be affected by such a pipeline and tankers that threaten B.C.’s lands, waters and climate?

If you believe you will be impacted in some way by this proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline and tankers, we encourage you to apply to participate, to share your views and concerns with the NEB.

We are here to help. We have prepared some information to help you understand the application process, we will be hosting workshops to walk you through the process, and we are available to answer your questions.  Contact us.

You can start your application today by creating a My NEB Account.

Confirmed workshops and community meetings offering support with the application process (watch our Facebook page or website for more):

Jan. 25 - 1 - 4 p.m., Victoria (hosted by Sierra Club BC and Wilderness Committee)
Jan. 25 – 3 p.m., Burnaby (hosted by MP Kennedy Stewart)
Jan. 29 – 6 p.m., Vancouver (hosted by Wilderness Committee)
If you don’t apply by February 12 you will not be able to officially comment on the pipeline and tankers project during the hearings. We all have a right to participate in this public process. For the salmon,

P.S. You can also contact NEB advisor Reny Chakkalakal by email or by phone at (toll free) 1-800-899-1265. The NEB is hosting webinars as well.
