Today we're releasing a new report, “By Invitation Only: Canadians’ Perceptions of Political Parties,” which invites conversation on the role of political parties in reconnecting citizens to politics.

Political parties can, and should, act as important entry points for Canadians to engage with politics and influence political decisions. Yet according to the result of our citizens’ survey, parties are not fulfilling their potential and everyday Canadians feel they are being kept out on the wrong side of parties’ velvet ropes. You can read the full report online. If you're on–the–go, download the mobile version here.

                          Key findings:

a.. More than 50% of Canadians said parties' #1 priority should be “reaching out to Canadians,” but awarded parties the lowest grade in that role.
a.. Across parties’ six core areas of responsibility, Canadians awarded grades of D through F.
a.. 69% of survey respondents say parties and candidates are only interested in their votes, not their opinions.
a.. Those involved with political parties hold similar views about parties’ priorities as other Canadians, but award slightly higher grades.
