Dear Hon. Ministers

In Ontario there is nopublic policy or regulation regarding the production and transportation of shale gas. Recently Enbridge was approved for new pipeline into GTA to bring fracked gas from the US as noted in the following news article:
http://www.thestar.com/business/economy/2014/01/30/enbridge_gets_goahead_for_685million_gta_pipeline.html

I am very much concerned about the prospect of this new gas line for the following reasons:

Cornell University expert Robert Horwarth has revealed that Natural Gas may actually be the worst fossil fuel type due to Methane. You can review a video of him discussing the concerns here: http://www.stargazette.com/article/20140208/NEWS01/302080015

A very large TransCanada gas line explosion in Alberta was caused by external "bacteria" as the cause of a gas line rupture.

As a delegate at the Line 9 hearing, I presented sworn evidence about concerns regarding PE tape being used on Line 9 since we have bacteria that eats PE plastic in our natural environment. They thrive in nitrate rich areas like farmlands. This data came from an award winning report produced by a Kitchener high school student, Daniel Burd. His bacteria samples came from the Waterloo Landfill. His report is on-line here: http://wwsef.uwaterloo.ca/archives/2008/08BurdReport.pdf

The reason for the Kalamazoo rupture was due to the failure of the PE tape. We have no data to show how the bacteria may have resulted in the tenting issues nor is there any existing data to show how PE eating bacteria may impact the lifespan or function of the pipelines.  We need research to be done on this issue to reasonably prevent risks.

Previously I submitted a PDF report to the National Energy Board regarding several structural integrity risks identified with pipeline construction be it for water mains, gas or oil. I would like to share this data with the Province because we are currently at a time when 80% of Canada's infrastructure will need repair or replacement. We need to reasonably review how pipelines are engineered in order to mitigate ecological/environment/legal risks. Here is the link to my PDF presentation to the NEB for your reference.

There is a fact sheet that was released by the Ontario Clean Air Alliance which shows how hydro Imports from Quebec could save Ontario 1 billion each year in energy costs. In my view, this sort of solution would provide a much more desirable outcome for Ontario's energy and economic future while benefiting Quebec. Here is the fact sheet.

In light of these concerns, I would like to request that the Province step up to put a moratorium on the Enbridge shale gas line project until such a time that the issues regarding emissions, regarding the bacteria and structural concerns have been reasonably addressed.

Thank you kindly for your time.
