Hi GRENers,
Martin De Groot wrote about this in his Aug. 31 column. Our oldest got
involved with Nuit Blanche in Toronto on a workterm and it was quite
wonderful. Since A/J (formerly known as Alternatives Journal) is the lead on
this, there is an environmental theme. Unfortunately, the deadline for
proposals is this Friday, so unless someone has a brilliant notion, I don't
think GREN could participate. But they will be looking for volunteers.

A\J presents Night\Shift, Kitchener's inaugural nuit blanche-style festival
of art, culture and nocturnal adventure.
Come see Kitchener in a whole new light - by exploring it in the dark.
9 pm to 3 am, November 2nd & 3rd 2013
Members of the Waterloo Region community and local environmental magazine
A\J are collaborating to produce downtown Kitchener's inaugural nuit
blanche-style festival of art, culture and nocturnal adventure. Our mission
is to attract a diverse local audience to explore an unconventional showcase
of arts, technology, bright ideas and nightlife on foot.
NIGHT\SHIFT will be spread throughout various indoor and outdoor locations
downtown, based around a central event hub on Duke Street (closed between
Frederick and Queen), and spreading out in both directions along Queen. The
event will begin a couple of hours after sundown on the night of the autumn
time change and run into the wee hours.
We are seeking contributions and creations from a range of (primarily local)
visual artists, media and research labs, technologists, students and student
groups, musicians and small businesses. We're also aiming to involve local
community leaders, cultural stakeholders and other entrepreneurs in a
collaboration that sheds new light on the local cultural landscape.

Submit a proposal
We are currently inviting individual artists, performers, entrepreneurs and
cultural organizations to submit short written proposals for installations
or exhibits, technology demonstrations, performance pieces and other
participatory public events on the theme "Intervention."
The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, September 6th, 2013.

volunteer positions both before and during the event, from promoting the
event and setting up installations, to running interactive exhibits and
helping people find their way around.
