On January 10th, Dalton McGuinty said the Province will expand Ontario's protected Greenbelt lands by 265 hectares in Oakville (Oakville Moraine), as well as allow municipalities to add river valleys to the Greenbelt. If we did this we could protect the Grand River from GRAVEL PITS. We could also ask if we could include the ESL's into this protection as well since currently the MNR does not recognize any prohibitions for gravel extraction with this policy because it's municipal not provicial.

Victory in 2013 city budget!

This week, Toronto City Council resisted cuts to programs that conserve energy and address climate change. After months of hard work, over 80% of Councillors voted for a new program that could dramatically increase energy retrofits for buildings across Toronto. They also funded Forestry programs to address the Emerald Ash Borer crisis facing our tree canopy. Read more on our website.

Thanks to TEA members who contacted their Councillors, and to Councillor Perks who developed the innovative solution and worked to build consensus on the issue!
Growing the Greenbelt to TO

On January 10th, Premier McGuinty announced the Province will expand Ontario's protected Greenbelt lands by 265 hectares in Oakville, as well as allow municipalities to add river valleys to the Greenbelt.

This is great news for Toronto, where Council has already voted to grow the Greenbelt to the Humber and Don valleys. Ontario's world-renowned Greenbelt designation is key to ensuring cleaner air and water, and local food production for Toronto.

In December, over 400 TEA supporters sent letters of support to the Province for growing the Greenbelt - thank you!
 Enbridge pipeline through residential Toronto

Enbridge is trying to transport toxic tar sands crude oil through Toronto to US customers. The aging Line 9 pipeline crosses residential neighbourhoods and the Humber, Don, and Rouge rivers. Read more about the risks on the Environmental Defence website.
Line 9 is on Council's radar, but residents are demanding urgent action. Saturday January 26 is an important day to get involved: www.stopline9-toronto.ca.
