Happy new year! I hope you and your family had a
terrific holiday season.  It has been nice to sit back, catch up on work,
start/finish a new non-mega-quarry project and simply enjoy Xmas.
Now for a quick update:

1.  17-Jan-2013:  The foodland and water of
Melancthon are still at risk until government priorities have
changed.  Both the federal and provincial governments seem to pave the way
for industry regardless of cost.  Thus we need to work to
enact legal protections for food, water, endangered species and
natural spaces.  To that end, the Idle No More (#IdleNoMore) movement by
First Nations is helping to draw attention to the way Canada's natural resources
are being exploited.  There is a gathering in Midhurst (north west of
Barrie) on Thursday, January 17th at 11am outside the Ministry of Natural
Resources office, 2284 Nursery Road (just north of hwy 26, opposite the
Springwater municipal office.)  More info at www.aware-simcoe.ca

2.  16-Feb-2013:  NDACT is holding its
annual meeting in conjunction with a "Taters not Craters" Victory
Party and Valentine's Dance on Saturday, February 16th at 6pm in the
Honeywood Community Centre.  Tickets are being sold at cost ($20
each) as this is a party and not a fundraiser.  Info and the link
to ticket sales are available at www.ndact.com.

3.  Call to Action - Liberal Leadership:  In less than two weeks, the Ontario Liberal party will
choose a new leader who will automatically become Premier. Over the next few
days we hope you will encourage the six leadership contenders to support a Food
and Water First policy for the province.  More info at:  http://users.xplornet.com/~dbaylis/mega-quarry/Call%20to%20Action/C2A%20History/130115%20Call%20to%20Action.htm

Now that the mega-quarry proposal has been dropped, I will
continue to send out information that is deemed relevant to protecting
Ontario's food and water in the long-term.  If you wish to be removed
from the mailing list, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Enjoy your evening,

“Our rush towards short-term profit and economic
growth, at the expense of the natural world, cannot last forever. So let's start
fixing it now. Let's improve our energy policies, bring nature into our cities,
connect young people with nature and change our definition of what's "enough".
Our own survival as a species depends on it.”  David Suzuki (e-mail
