We are excited about the upcoming visit of the TD Walter Bean Lecturer, Professor Diana Liverman, Sept.30-Oct.4, 2013. Prof. Liverman is a Professor of Geography and Development, University of Arizona. She is also a  Visiting Professor of Environmental Policy and Development, School of Geography and Environment, and Senior Research Fellow, Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University. Professor Liverman’s work focuses on human dimensions of global environmental change, including climate impacts, vulnerability and adaptation, and climate policy and mitigation in the developing world.
I wanted to let you know that Prof. Liverman will have some time to meet with Faculty during her fall visit. We will be hosting a general 'meet and greet' on the morning of Tuesday Oct. 1 and we have set aside the morning of Thursday Oct.3 for one-on-one meetings for any faculty who wish to meet with her to discuss research interests, potential collaborations, etc. If you wish to set up an individual meeting with Prof. Liverman on Oct.3, please send an email to Sandra Ramautarsingh ( sramautarsingh at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:sramautarsingh at uwaterloo.ca> ) to set up an appointment. If you would like an individual meeting with Dr. Liverman but cannot make a time on the morning of Thursday Oct. 3, please let Sandra know and we will see what we can do to find a time for you to meet her.
While I have your attention on this subject, I wanted to remind you that Prof. Liverman will be delivering a public lecture the evening of Wednesday Oct. 2 ­ to which all ENV faculty are welcome.

Diana Liverman is the co-director of the University of Arizona Institute of the Environment. The Institute promotes interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach on the environment at The University of Arizona. Her tenure and disciplinary home is in the School of Geography and Development and in 2011 she was awarded a Regents Professorship at the University of Arizona. She has maintained an affiliation with Oxford University where she is a visiting professor of Environmental Policy and Development in the School of Geography and Environment, a fellow of Linacre College, and a fellow in the Environmental Change Institute. Her career has focused on the human dimensions of global environmental change and her main research interests include climate impacts, vulnerability and adaptation, and climate policy and mitigation especially in the developing world. She also works on the political economy and political ecology of environmental management in the Americas, especially in Mexico.
TD Group/Walter Bean Visiting Professorship in the Environment
The intent of the visiting professorship is to permit the university to bring to campus outstanding leaders in a variety of environmental fields, to work with Waterloo faculty, staff and students to enhance the teaching and research programs at Waterloo. Typically, each visiting professor presents public lectures during the term on his/her appointment which are designed to engage members of the local community. 2012 will mark the sixteenth TD Group Walter Bean Professorship in the Environment since its creation in 1994. The professorship is rotated among the three faculties having environmental programs, i.e. Environment, Engineering and Science. This endowed professorship is generously supported by the TD Group.
