in case anyone doesn't already get these emails from the Ontario Environment Network, there are quite a few interesting topics below, including the launch of a new "responsible growth fund" which might be timely for us .....The Ministry of Infrastructure is excited to launch the Places to Grow Implementation Fund. The fund supports growth planning province-wide, and projects that achieve and promote policies and goals of the Province's growth plans - the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. see below for more info.

The Ontario Headwaters Institute reminds OEN members that the comment period on the Environmental Registry for the Great Lakes Protection Act runs through April 26
The Ontario Headwaters Institute reminds OEN members that the comment period on the Environmental Registry for the Great Lakes Protection Act, reference number 011-6461, runs through April 26.
For our part, while we support enhanced protection for the Great Lakes, we believe that the proposed Act, currently also in second reading in the legislature, is significantly deficient and does not set appropriate direction to manage the Great Lakes Basin as an interconnected system of contributing watersheds.

Will you join us in saying NO to oil spills and climate change? ...
OCAA: Premier Wynne can lower your energy bills - with the power of efficiency
People in Ontario use 50% more energy per person than their neighbours in New York State. That's a big gap that can't be explained away by a colder climate or other factors - the bottom line is that we are simply much more wasteful in our energy use.
We need to close that gap to save money, make our businesses and industries more competitive, and avoid the multi-billion dollar cost - and risks - of new nuclear and gas plants. It's time for Ontario to get serious about energy efficiency by making it the first choice for meeting our needs, whether it's a warm house or a cold beer.

Willms & Shier Special Aboriginal Report April 2013
It seems that hardly a week goes by without a provincial, territorial or federal court issuing yet another landmark decision that impacts how we approach First Nations treaty rights, resource development in traditional lands, the Crown's duty to consult, or even the most basic question 'what is an "Indian?"' As we were pulling together this Special Report on Aboriginal law, we had to keep trimming and reorganizing the contents to squeeze in an extra story on another important development, decision or appeal.
We are indeed living in interesting times.

Free Webinar - James Hoggan on the Polluted Public Square
Jim Hoggan is on a mission to determine why, in spite of compelling and unequivocal scientific evidence, we are doing so little to address environmental problems. It's the toxic public conversations surrounding the issues, the contaminated smog of misinformation and bitter adversarial rhetoric that are turning many away from collective involvement in despair. ...
