Dear Grenlings,

This email comes from Tony and Fran McQauil.  Tony is  a former student of mine, organic farmer, and longtime activist .  Their farm is wonderful and they have an annual open house with a number of events.

Tony has also included an email about the upcoming electronic protest being coordinated by a number of leading environmental organizations concerned about the wretched assault on environmental legislation ("the war on nature and democracy") being launched by the Harper government.

Dear Friends and Customers,

This weekend - Saturday, May 12 from 10-4 and Sunday, May 13 from 1-4 is our annual Open House when we do horse drawn wagon rides around the farm and you can see young calves and chickens and pigs on pasture.  It is the time when Fran sells heirloom tomatoes and the usual peppers, eggplants, leeks, other vegetables and culinary herbs in the green house.  As well you can walk in the woods to see the wild flowers though with the early spring it is hard to know whether the trillium will still be a carpet of white as they were last weekend.

This year there is a potential BONUS - I (Tony) am in a local theatre production of "Bedtime Stories" by Norm Foster.  It is a gut bustingly funny play and the audience response has been so strong that we have extended the run another week to  Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12 both at 7:30 pm.  So if you are coming from a distance and planning to spend a night in the area - here is some possible entertainment - and if you are local and want to take in the show after the open house Saturday that could work too.  Tickets are a bargain at $10 and if you want some let me know which day so I can have them set aside for you.

I will be sending out a separate e-mail today to spring beef customers to get details of when you will be picking up or whether you need delivery.  Please Respond when you get it so I can plan appropriately.

As Organic Farmers our goal is to work with nature to produce the best food possible.  To do this we need a healthy ecosystem and a healthy community.  I hope you will have a look at what the Sierra Club and many other environmental organizations are doing.
