    First Joint Congress on Evolutionary Biology  ( aka Evolution 2012) 
    in Ottawa July 6-10

This landmark event will bring together five of the world's largest 
academic societies devoted to the study of ecology and evolutionary 
biology: the //American Society of Naturalists// (ASN), the //Canadian 
Society for Ecology and Evolution// (CSEE) the //European Society for 
Evolutionary Biology// (ESEB), the //Society for the Study of 
Evolution// (SSE), and the //Society of Systematic Biologists// (SSB).  
This will be the first time that these five societies have met together, 
creating a truly international event that spans the fields of ecology 
and evolution.It will be the premier showcase in 2012 for the 
presentation and discussion among peers of the latest, leading-edge 
research in ecology and evolution, and will also be an important forum 
for outreach and education.

To mark the irony of this event in Canada while our government has 
slashed funding for research and collection of scientific data from a 
broad swath of environmental research groups, there is a "Death of 
Evidence Rally" at noon in Ottawa by Council of Canadians and many other 
social justice and environmental organizations.

No science, no evidence, no truth, no democracy!__*

Science in Canada is under assault. This rally coincides with the large 
scientific conference taking place in Ottawa. If you can't attend the 
rally in Ottawa please join us. _**_*__*

Everyone is welcome! Wear your lab coat or dress in black. Feel free to 
bring signs and/or other scientific or medical equipment. We will have a 
mock funeral for this untimely death of scientific evidence in our country.

  We *need* your help to make this event a success. With the timing of 
this demonstration in conjunction with the conference, we hope the media 
will cover the information about this loss of our water protections, our 
biodiversity, our future, etc. Please join us on July 10th to celebrate 
the untimely death of scientific evidence in Canada.
