[All] comments needed before Aug 3 on nuclear waste disposal

Hello GRENers,
  Comments are urgently needed on this issue of deep deposit of nuclear 
waste. I copy the words from Ziggy's email to me with his contact if you 
need further information.
  Ziggy has followed nuclear issues for years. He was the spearhead 
behind the Canadians For Renewable Energy which is now part of the 
Ontario Clean Air Alliance .
   I will send my comments this week . Please send out to any concerned 
people or elists that you have. We must get more Canadians commenting.

/You hopefully will remember that I talked in urgent terms recently 
about the Joint Panel EA Review of OPG's proposed Deep Geological 
Repository(DGR) at the shore of Lake Huron. The Public Comment Period is 
over August 3rd. This is incredibly serious.
So far the American  are putting us to shame with some 50 individual 
comments versus 2 or 3 Canadian ones shown on the Canadian Environmental 
Registry - please see the attached Toronto Star article./
/Is it not a Canada - Ontario proposal? Why is there hardly any interest 
in expressing grave concerns from Ontario residents??/
/Time is quickly running out on this ONE AND ONLY chance to let our 
voice be heard!!/
/It would take only half-an-hour to put a couple short sentences 
together and send them by email!/
/Tell the Panel to choose the alternative OPG had investigated and 
rejected over the out-of-sight- out-of-mind dump./
/Hardened on-site storage, concrete covered above ground depository, 
will make it possible to modify the irradiated waste if new technology 
becomes available - deep repositories make it impossible to retrieve 
that waste when something goes wrong over the long term!/
/PLEASE take the time, it's so important to speak up individually, I 
have attached again the CEAA contact information where you can send your 
comments to the JRP Panel and also look up what others have sent under 
Public Comments/Submissions/Requests./
