Hi folks

Here's the latest update regarding Mount Nemo in Burlington where a quarry is putting Jefferson Salamander habitats at risk.

The final submission by Sarah Harmer is in the attachments and states there are now only 27 areas left for Jefferson Salamanders in Ontario. Good point for the Hidden Valley folks to raise with council.

Subject: Hearings Update

Dear PERL Supporter:

The end of the Nelson Aggregate Hearings for the
proposed quarry on Mount Nemo is fast approaching.

February 27, 28 and 29 are the scheduled
final days for Joint Board Hearing Arguments and Reply.  If you would like
to show your support please join us (for a full or half day) at the Quality Inn
on Hwy 25 in Oakville, just south of the QEW.  Hearings run from 10.00 am
to approximately 4.30 pm.

Thanks go to the Donnelly Law team who did a superb
job in preparing and writing PERL's Final Written Arguments, which were
submitted last week.  The document is lengthy, but we would be very happy
to forward it to anyone who would like to see it.  Just let us
know!

Not so lengthy but just as powerful is Sarah
Harmer's Final Submission to the Hearings Board.  Check out the attachment
for her insightful argument against the approval of the
application.

PERL is proud and pleased to have worked with
Donnelly Law and our technical experts in preparing and presenting the best case
we knew how and, on behalf of the Mount Nemo community and PERL supporters near
and far, would like to thank them sincerely for their efforts.

We are optimistic in the ultimate outcome as the
science absolutely argues for a rejection of the Nelson application.  It
also clearly justifies re-designating the Nelson property to Escarpment
Protection and Escarpment Natural - an important first step to the eventual
protection of the whole Mount Nemo Plateau from ecologically non-sustainable
development.

However, our work is not yet finished.  It
will be a while before we know the Joint Board Decision.  In the
meantime....
	* We still need to get resolution on our Niagara Escarpment Commission Amendment asking for redesignation of the Nelson Aggregate property
	* We need to advance the Mount Nemo 7G Vision
	* We still need to fundraise to pay our experts for their invaluable services.
Thank you for your support and for contributions to
our PERL Mission.

Sincerely,

PERL Executive
