Waterloo Regional Staff is recommending that the Council approve a
³Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain² arrangement with the private sector
for the Light Rail Transit.
Attached is the official announcement for consultation on the privatization
of the Waterloo LRT. The Planning and Works Committee will hold their
public consultation session on Tuesday February 7 in the Region¹s Council
chambers. To register to speak at this session, call the Clerk¹s office at
519-575-4420. If you call by noon today (sorry about the late notice), you
get to speak for ten minutes. You can still register to speak after that,
but you will be limited to five minutes presentation.
I have registered to speak on behalf of GREN. At our last meeting we took
the position that this is a very critical issue and that, therefore, more
time for the community to consider and talk about this issue should occur
before Council makes a decision. I will be taking that position and
justifying it by raising issues about privatization. Any thoughts you wish
to send me on the issue would be appreciated.
We encourage the rest of you to register to speak and come out and express
your thoughts on the issue. The more the better to show that this is a
serious issue for the community and deserves more serious consideration.
