The permit for the Trans Canada pipeline to build the Keystone technically expired. They were mandated by order from the National Energy Board to get working on the pipeline by March 11, 2011. Trans Canada said they did do work but onsite inspection found out they didn't so the Union initiated a hearing on the matter.

The ruling from the National Energy Board: Trans Canada is working in a timely manner. No problem, please move on sort of thing even though technically the Keystone permit should by law be Null and Void. Here's what the CEP President had to say:
“The construction of this pipeline is two years behind schedule and nothing has been done that would meet any ordinary definition of construction, yet the NEB has declared it is proceeding in a timely manner,” said CEP President Dave Coles. “It is an incredible decision and a blatant cover up for TCPL.”
“Whereas the US regime requires an account of the impacts the pipeline will have on jobs, Canada's does not,” says Coles. “The US process also requires an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from upstream and downstream facilities; but the NEB has completely ignored the impact of greenhouse gasses.”

CEP president Coles is heading to the Washington DC to participate in the Nov. 6th anti-Keystone protest.
This weekend, on November 5th there will be 2 Occupy events. Occupy UW is meeting at the Princess Cafe by the Princess Cinema in Waterloo from 9-12 and there is a General Assembly in Kitchener outside at City Hall at 2:30. I'll be there to take a quick YouTube video in solidarity with the efforts to stop the Keystone pipeline. It will be posted on YouTube so if anyone wants to create a banner or visual for either one of these events, I'll be sure to get it recorded on video or if you would like to create your own YouTube as to why you oppose the pipeline, I can circulate that to organizers as well. I'm working with the Stop the Tarsands movement that protested in Ottawa still.
