Dear Mr. Milloy,

 

Re: Highlands Quarry application

 

I appreciate that the Environmental Registry deadline has been extended to
July 11, 2011 for comment on the proposed Highland Quarry, but I believe
this matter is important enough to approach you directly to ask you to help
stop this from happening. 

 

Although I haven't been able to make it through all of the thousand or so
pages of documentation, it is impossible for 940 hectares of land to be dug
200 feet below the water table and not have an absolutely devastating effect
on our drinking water, several watersheds, pristine aquifers, prime
potato-growing land, fish, wildlife and the lives of people in our province.
Air quality and quality of life will suffer from the vast number of trucks,
increased traffic, noise and dust. Regardless of what their plans say about
restoring the area, the damage cannot be undone. 

 

I am particularly disturbed that it has been this easy for a Boston Hedge
Fund to buy up so much of Ontario to potentially extract and personally
profit from natural resources that should be benefiting all of Southern
Ontario. Clean air, water and food for so many are not worth sacrificing. 

 

I look forward to your help in preventing this quarry and any suggestions
from you on other ways we, as citizens, can effect this. 

 

I have also sent a copy of this email directly to the  Premier's office
through his website.
