Good Lord, Lulu,   there may come a day when I see you as a minister....
like...   MOE   MNR   MOF   ETC   ETC    ETC      ...you just keep gleaning
all this info and sharing it..  I'm so scattered with my multiple interests
in enviro...plus saving hospital (1996-1998)  now the   reunion in
CELEBRATION of St. Mary's Hospital ....    Then....  keeping the
contaminated soil company from opening up so close to our New and Enhanced
St. Mary's,  as well as the cessation of their Air Emissions Licence in one
of the worst smog cities in Canada.  Many people do not know that one of the
main reasons we ARE the worst is because of 'stuff' coming up from Ohio etc
in the US,  but also because of our Geographic  nature. We are in a little
basin like site   (kind of like surrounded by higher land )  and it takes a
kind of high wind to blow the smog out of here. Plus we are now increasingly
creating more and more of our own smog, with additional immigrants and more
cars and more buildings  etc  etc  etc.  I was always shocked that Hamilton
could produce so much smoke and smog  and not be worse than us.....however,
Hamilton is on a higher plain and the wind takes their junk away (I don't
know if any reaches us, but have never heard that accusation.)  So, I need
my little reward for writing this ...I hope that at least ONE person now
understands this scenario better today than they did yesterday....    and
would you reward me by writing to all at gren.ca  and  make my day tomorrow by
admitting you have learned from my rant tonight.  Thank you ALL for the way
we share and help each other in our quest to leave a lot  more than "a
little" bit for the next seven generations (as this site was called for some
years)   I am proud to be a small part of you.   Ginny Quinn

Hi folks

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing said the Minister of
Environment may be open to discussion about a Waterloo Moraine Act.  He has
invited me to speak further on the matter with the MOE Minister Wilkinson. I
used to go to church with the entire Wilkinson family for years in Trenton
where I grew up. We sat behind his family in church so it will be nice to
see him again. See letter in the attachment for details. 

This election I've been working with the Liberal party and tonight I got a
call. I'll be meeting Michael Ignatieff  tomorrow with the rest of the KW
liberal supporters.  I'd like to ask him how much money the Liberal Party
intends to allocate towards their proposed federal water protection act. 

I've been reviewing the Highland Quarry data and the Hydrogeology reports
are absolutely outrageous.

I'm working on a draft response but in a nutshell I can tell you the
following: They based their data on modflow models which is computer program
to determine flow based on numbers from bore hole data. Since many of the
surrounding land owners prohibited them from entering their property to test
their wells, many of the bore hole readings used for Modflow were taken back
in 1945. Without access to those wells they relied on the MOE info regarding
the standard drinking water tests for residental wells as if that data could
reasonably forcast the water quality impacts of this mega quarry. Modflow
doesn't have much regard to geology or sediment type so all their
projections on infiltration rates are pretty much fabricated on
unsubstantiated claims. There is really no reasonable baseline data to work
with in regards to this project. No spring thaw analysis, lack of 12 month
creek studies etc. Same old same old. 

If I were going to the OMB against this, the professionals needed would
include a geologist/sediment expert and hydrologist.  They'd have a field
day with this rubbish. Here's the EIS link if your curious:
