Waterloo North Water Supply Class EA Schedule "C" Info session
Region of Waterloo is completing a municipal water supply study to identify new wells in the Waterloo North West Study area. Pump tests have been completed which identifies sustainable yields.The recommended water supply strategy and alternative design concept consisting of production wells at W5A and Laurel Tank sites in Waterloo with a treatment facility will be on display for public comment on Thursday March 10, 2011 5:30-8:30 Sir John A. Macdonald School 650 Laurelwood Dr. Waterloo.  Details in attachments. 

The Walkable Bikeable Waterloo Forum
Thursday March 10th, 7-9:30 Waterloo City Hall. 
Residents are invited to join the conversation about making the City of Waterloo accessible for pedestrians and cyclists at a public forum on Thursday, March 10 that will be facilitated by 8-80 Cities, a Canadian not-for-profit organization focused on creating people-friendly cities.

EBR: 2 large Water Taking Permit requests in Kitchener/Waterloo Area:

1. Chemtura's 10 year water permit
The Environmental Registry has an application for water taking from Chemtura for remediation purposes up to 426 000 litres a day for 10 years. Deadline for public comment is March 20. Details here:

2. Pillers 10 year water permit
Pillars wants to extract up to 1,612,000 litres of water a day for 10 years. Deadline for public comment March 24, 2011.

Provincial Issues & News

North Dumfries: Potato vs.
 Quarry update:



The Highland Companies has filed their application for 
their quarry. The Highland Company wants a quarry with extraction approximately 200 feet below the water table covering some 2,400 acres.There are three separate applications

Opposition
 to the project states that each application will require letters of
 objection 
within very prescribed time frames. If people want to join a mailing

Nuclear's Water impacts: Study flawed
Governmental Panel report found that OPG's study of water impacts from nuclear power is flawed. Here is the link to the report:

Genetically Modified Food Forum: Guelph 
March 10th there will be a public forum on Genetically Engineered foods at 7-9:30 at the Italian-Canadian Club in Guelph.

Quick Sign Online Petition: Save Environment Canada's funding
The council of Canadians has a petition where folks can state the budget cuts made to Environment Canada are unacceptable.

The makers of the "Story of Stuff" have created a new very short video showing the rise of corporate influence in US politics. This is very much relevant to issues affecting us Canadians as well. Highly recommended.
