[All] Chemtura fire at 4am today

Good point Lulu.     Would a contact at the Region have the info re backup
systems.  Our storms are getting worse for multiple reasons  one of which is
the continuous loss of Wetlands.   Ginny

Hi folks

 

Newstalk 570 mentioned there was a fire around Chemtura around 4am today as
a result of the storm we had last night. No spill was reported but it is
something to watch out for. Power outages were reported in Kitchener as
well. 

 

Once risk we'll be seeing more of with storms like this is the associated
risk of contamination by way of toxic spills from industry during power
outages. Most filtration systems are electrical. Not sure if we have
legislation in place to mandate any reasonable back up for these systems but
we should as part of the source water protection measures.
