Announcing Kitchener's Solar City Incentive for Local Faith Communities:
"Creation Care" and "Environmental Stewardship" are terms that we're all hearing more and more about it seems, and with good reason. The City of Kitchener, with support from Greening Sacred Spaces (GSS), Mennonite Central Committee of Ontario (MCCO), and Community Renewable Energy Waterloo (CREW), is pleased to be offering incentives to help Kitchener based faith communities to install solar panels on their buildings.
The program is called "Solar City", and Kitchener faith groups are eligible to earn up to $10,000 to help install solar panels on their worship centre, school, or other faith institution. Details are forthcoming, but it is clear that interested faith groups will be given free training and educational resources to help them determine whether they can do a solar energy project on their building(s), and for those who are interested in pursuing projects further, there will be more help available before they would need to make any commitments.
Some local faith groups have already expressed an interest in using the solar incentive to start their project, and in using the solar project both to teach their members and the onlooking public about caring for creation, and to create new revenue for their faith group: revenue to help fund other projects.
All indicators are that the incentives will be used up quickly, so interested faith groups should contact solar at crewzone.ca for more information as soon as possible. CREW will be managing the program on behalf of the City, and will maintain a waiting list of interested institutions.
We encourage you to express your interest today! No commitments required: first come, first served. Please indicate your faith community's interest by emailing solar at crewzone.ca . More details will follow - but don't wait. Contact CREW immediately at solar at crewzone.ca if your faith community or faith-related independent school in Kitchener is interested.
