Update re: Highland Quarry
The Avaaz petition has taken off like wildfire and as a result, the Ontario MNR minister is under serious pressure.  She released this statement on Twitter earlier today:

In less than 24 hours we've seen support grow from 7000 signatures to over 60,000 signatures and counting. This issue is posted on the main Avaaz webpage and the hits are coming in from all over the world continually. Word of the Avaaz petition is circulating via emails by Union groups and environmental websites throughout the world and folks are posting links via twitter and facebook. Amazing thing to see.
