Hello Folks. This is a big week for the Guelph Chapter.
*Wednesday Jan 26th 7pm. Maude Barlow *will be in Guelph at War Mem Hall
to talk about CETA and its lust for municipal services and procurement
contracts of municipalities, schools and universities, public utilities,
health sector, etc.
*Thursday Jan 27th. The Food Security Roundtable . *
The venue for the Food Security Roundtable on Jan 27th (1-4pm) is the
_Delta Hotel in Guelph._ The Gryphon Room has been set aside for us and
parking is free.
_
_
_50 Stone Rd West_ (at corner of Gordon St and Stone Rd), 519-780-3700.
Limited space but you will be able to observe if you contact us ahead of
time.
MP Frank Valeriote will host the above event and is bringing two other
representatives from the Agriculture and Agri-Business Committee in
Ottawa: MP Carolyn Bennett ( a medical doctor and health critic for the
Opposition) and MP Wayne Easter (agriculture critic for the
Opposition). They will be here to listen primarily.
This has been organized because of the collapse of Bill C-474 (re
protecting organic farmers from GE contamination of their crops). There
are concerns that must be addressed regarding the industrial model of
agriculture in order to strengthen food security. The event is being
held to hear concerns and suggestions for proposed policy changes. This
Food Security Round-table represents voices from sustainable , 'buy
local', and organic farming practices who propose another path to food
security. Concerns related to the biotech industry and the industrial
model of agriculture, the impact on farmers, seed-savers, organic crops,
monocultures, pollinators, water and the global south will be discussed.
Notes will be taken back to Ottawa.
