[All] Lulu at Waterloo Council re: Integrity Commissioner

Hi folks

Tonight at Waterloo City Council I'll be making a presentation calling for the municipality of Waterloo to extended powers of the Integrity Commissioner to review staff conduct.

 This ability to extend powers has already been crafted into the Municipal Act, S.O, 2001 Chapter 25 where it states in 223.2 (2) in regards to integrity commissioners:

2) Subject to this Part, in carrying out the responsibilities described in subsection (1) the Commissioner may exercise such powers and shall perform such duties as may be assigned to him or her by the municipality, 2006, c.32, Sched., A, s.98

Extending the powers of the Integrity Commissioner was a recommendation made in the Bellamy report (recommendation 47) but the city of Toronto decided to hire an Ombudsman to handle the job instead. To date no municipality has implemented their power to extend the powers of an integrity commissioner but we're in a good spot to initiate it since the community is small enough that the integrity commissioner could reasonably take on this additional roll without it being overwhelming.
