Dear Louisette,
I wouldn't usually ask for your help on a Friday afternoon, but the UN negotiations in Durban are heading into an all night session and we need your help.
Please take a minute to send Prime Minister Harper and Environment Minister Peter Kent urging them to show leadership in Durban.
A common statement released by an unusual alliance between developed countries in Europe and those most at risk of climate change - small islands and the poorest countries - highlights the growing consensus that action is urgent:
"The gap between our ambitions and the current pledges is simply too wide. And we need not to remind anyone of the scale of climatic threats facing the most vulnerable countries in the world as a result of climate change. The facts are clear and we are still too far from where we need to be to secure the most vulnerable countries’ right to sustainable development."
These are the final hours of the UN negotiations and a critical time to send an urgent message saying the world cannot wait. Canada can regain its reputation for doing what's right on major global issues by supporting a strong, binding international deal and getting to work to cut carbon pollution at home.
Send a message now!
Thank you,
Gillian McEachern
