Subject: Announcement: Embracing the Winds of Change: Developing Waterloo Region's Adaptation Strategy

Hello Sir/Madam,

The Waterloo Public Interest Research Group would like to remind you to attend our adaptation strategy planning meeting. We will be joined by guest speaker Allan Douglas, Director of the Ontario Centre for Climate Impacts and Adaptation Ressources (OCCIAR). OCCIAR provides outreach and capacity building to communities like ours that are just beginning the process of adaptation. Using an interactive presentation, Mr. Douglas will discuss how to begin developing an adaptation strategy and what the Waterloo Region's adaptation strategy can look like in detail. He will share with us the insight he has gained over the years from working collaboratively with other Ontario communities. This session is aimed at giving participants greater insight into the finer considerations that are needed when adapting to climate change. Those attending are not asked to commit to any project. Time will be given towards the end of the evening to discuss how to proceed. Those who are interested in learning more about adaptation and who are interested in moving forward into action in the community are encouraged to attend.

All are welcome at the adaptation planning session that will take place August 30nd at 7pm in the Schmalz room located on the second floor of Kitchener City Hall at 200 King Street West in downtown Kitchener. Refreshments and bus tickets will be provided. If you have specific dietary restriction please indicate them and every effort will be made so that the food is accessible to you. Kitchener City Hall is wheelchair accessible. ASL interpreters as well as childcare minders are available on request. Please respond to this email indicating whether you or a representative from your organization will be in attendance and whether they will be using our ASL interpretation services or childcare services. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and please indicate if you require any further provisions.

Please forward this information to all staff and relevant parties. If you are a social service provider we encourage you to print and post this information for your clients’ benefit.

Regards,
